The attention of the- Members and the General Pubic is called to some of the special features connected with the Society, which is the oldest Colonial Institution of its Kind, having been estnbii.'.lifd in the year 1849. The results of the business for the Forly-first year, ending 31st December, 1880, may be summarised as under : — Fihst— Tho number of the now policies issued was 11,004. Second — 'i he new A'snranco business effected was for £3,079,459. 'Inncn-The nrw Annual Premium Income amounted to £"121,800. Fourth — The net increase to the business, aftei- allowing for loss of income from lei minated Policies, was represented by 7028 policies, assuring £2,109.199. Fifth— The operations of the year raided the animal income of the society from £1 512,280 tn £1,G20---185, fin im-renee in twelve months of £112,905. Sixth — he accumula'ed fund was iucrensed during the year hy the sum of £742,811, equal to 71 per cent, of the gross premiums rectived. Seventh — The deaths among lives assured were G49 under 785 p^liciop, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602. irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables usk! in estimating the liahihtirs -would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,970, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth— The receipts from in- j terest and rents were £516,832, an j amount exceeding the sum paid for the c'aims by £138,952. Nixth— The expenses of management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. ! Tenth— The caßh surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 percent, on tho premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, 88Buring S49,4XT,TIT.
