The attention of the Members and ( the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with tbe c ociety, vhii-h is t.h" oldest Colonial Institution of its hind, having b<-en established in tho year 1849. The results of the business for the Forty-first year, ending 31st December, 1889, may be summarised as une'er : — First— Tho number of the now policies issued was 11,604. j Second — '! he new busi- 1 ness eft'ecied *as for £8,079,459. ■'IniKD — Tho new Annual Premium Income amounted t0£121,800. Fourth — The net increase to the business, after for loss of income from terminated Policies, was represented by 7028 polic-ies,assnring £2,109,199. " | Fifth— The operations of the year j raised the arntwl income of the ; society from Ml 512,280 to £1,025- ] 185, fin increase in twelve months . of £112,905. Sixth — he accumula'ed fund was , incrensed during the year by the sum of £742,811, equal io 71 per cent, of the gross premiums received. Seventh — The deaths among lives assured wer« G49 under 735 pnlicio^, causing claims upon tho Society amounting to £299,602. irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to tho Tables us^d in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,976, the mortality experienco being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipis from interest and rents were £516,882, an amount exceeding the sum paid for tbe c'aims by £ 188,952. Ninth— The expenses of management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, ausu.infi «4©,417, f 7l'7.
