Palmerston Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

A meeting of the above was held in tHe* Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Present— Messrs Lethbridge (in the chair), Haybittle, Taylor, and Park. An apology was received from Mr Nye. The Chairman stated that a special meeting had been called to consider the plan of hospital building and the Inspector's letter. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Inspector of Lunatic Asylums, informing the Board that he was thoroughly satisfied with the internal aarangements of the plan which had been submitted to him. His hesitation to approve without reserve was due to his fear that the new front might be somewhat unsightly. From Mr Jenkins, Auckland, complaining about his plans, etc., not being returned, and that his name had been made public as an unsuccessful competitor. The Secretary was instructed to write to Mr Jenkins, explain matters and express regret at any inconvenience he may have been caused. It waa proposed by Mr Park, seconded by Mr Taylor, and carried, That Mr Larcomb be appointed architect to the Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. He also to act as clerk of works. Eis remuneration to be 5 per cent on the work carried out by him, the same to include all charges.

It was proposed by Mr Haybittle, seconded by Mr Taylor, and carried, That the architect be instructed to complete plans, prepare specifications, and call tenders for the ereotion of the hospital, tenders to close on the 18th April, and to advertise it. The Clerk and Treasurer to make best terms for advestisements.

It was proposed by Mr Haybittle, seconded by Mr Taylor, and carried, That the Secretary communicate with the various sawmillers in and around the district, asking them for prices, the architect to supply them with a list of timber.

It was decided to draw a cheque to the amount of 80s for petty cash.

The Board then adjourned. — Standard.
