On the accession of Queen Viotoria the crown of Hanover passed to her uncle Ernest, Duke of Cumberland. There is a large sum of money in the German's hands known as the Guelph Fund, being receipts from this stolen territory. Many attempts have been made to make a refund of the amount to the rightful owners, but always with the provise that ali claim to ! the Crowu is abandoned. Till quite lately this has been refused, but our I latest cablegrams inform us that the Duke of Cumberland is prepared to receive his share of the interest on this fund and to agree to the conditions imposed if the Germans will recognise his heir, George William born in 1880, as Duke of Brans* ■ wick. The Duchy cf Brunswick is a j State of Northern Germany con sist - j ing chiefly of three detached parts, ! comprising an area of 1441 square miles, and a population of 400,000 nearly all of whom are Protestants.
