The Awahou representative in the Manawatu County Counoil, Mr Mitchell, has kept the wants of his Biding well before the Council. In the matter of the Shannon ferry he has been signally successful. Not only has he secured a fine new punt upon which were carried the oiher day at one time, a dog-cart and tandem, a dog-cart with shaft horse, and three other horses, but he has obtained a decent ferry house for the lessee, and has now got the contract let for good yards for the ferry. Lately nearly a mile of road from Elkins' corner towards Foxton has been clayed, and now 40 chains more are to be tendered for. The cablegram man %t Home is again to the fore. ' He sends information tliat the (3__man Emperdr has 'threatened to "prilverise " the Czar of Russia, but gives not the slightest information as to what hn_ led up to saoh <li_t>ng_ished language.
