A Tragedy Near Melbourne
A tragedy has been unearthed at --Windsor. The decomposed body of a woman has been found under the hearthstone in an unoccupied cottage. A tool maker rented the place six week ago, but never occupied it. The crime was discovered by a prospective tenant visiting the house " , where he detected a disagreeable odour. The hearthstone was dug up and a cement casing reached. When broken open it disclosed a body doubled up, and the cement had to be picked away piece by piece before an examination could be made. A deep cut was then found in the .throat and a wound in the head. The detectives fix the date of the murder as Christmas Eve. - there is no clue to the identity of the individuals it is believed, from scraps of paper that were found in the house, that they had just arrived from England. ■ The cottage was let in December, W and occupied by a man and woman who were surrounded by a certain amount of mystery. A laundryman says the clothes of both displayed richness. The man was evidently a foreigner.
