Thresh ing from the Stook.

Reports reach U3 that in some cases farmers are still pursuing the dangerous practice of threshing from the stook. At all times this is a most unwise proceeding, but during the present season it is especially so, and we trust that those who are doing it are in a very small minority. After what has happened it is of the moßt vital importance that the groin should be allowed to remain in stack a sufficient length of time to thoroughly mature. This means that at least >a: month should elapse, after stacking, before the grain is threshed out and put into bags. We hare the experience of 1883 and 1884 as a warning. During those years the wheat of this colony got a very bad name, which took years to undo, and in the interests of pur producers every farmer may create distrust. It is not, as if „ there were very much danger '.likely.; to follow the holding ,pf.the grain a : ' sufficient length of tiipae" to Watle it • to thoroughly mature. As we* have already indicated in a former, article, t prices in Europe are searcety likely to fall much below their present level before May or June, and then it will depend on the prospects, of the new crops whether there is' a rise or afalL There ,is therefore, sufficient time,' before speculation on the 1 next European harvest sets in, to our farmers to allow of 'their wtiefi,t thoroughly maturing in stack without incurrng much risk of loss aa regards prices — Frsss.
