Our Real Governors.
The Evening Post in a leader on Friday ithug represents the position the Government stands in relation to the Labour party. Unfortunately it is only too true : — The Trades and Labour Council has spoken, the Premier has heard, and there is 'little doubt that he will obey. Smitten on one cheek, he with the most Christian humility offers the other to the chastener. He parts with his cloak without demur and with a meekness which shows that no considerations of even decency would prevent him giving up his breeches also if they should be demanded. The .Trades and Labour Council has but to say what it wants, and the Premier, its most obedient servant; will spare ho effort '£■ to comply with its wishes. The contrast which Mr Ballance's conduct in this matter presents to the manly, honest, and statesmanlike action of Mr Dibbs, in New South sVales, under precisely similar circumstances, is humiliating to New Zealand, and must, we should think, inspire "even those who benefit by his pusillanimity with a most genuine contempt lor his want of self-respect and moral courage.
