Public Meeting.
A public meeting was held on Tuesday evening at the Manawatu hotel to consider the question of holding Sports on St Patrick's Day. There was a very good attendance and Mr T. P. Williams was voted to the chair. , . '< The Chairman after explaining the object of the meeting, read a letter from tho Secretary of the Rowing Club, in which he stated that the Club had for the past two years had a regatta on St Patrick's Day, and that, they had arranged one for this next St Patrick's Day, and he jioped the meeting would choose anofcher day. P\ After some conversation in which it was shown that there was no desire to run an opposition show against the Rowing Club, it was resolved "That Sports be held on Easter Monday." It was further resolved,. "That Messrs T. P. Williams, Bradcock, Furrie, Stansell, P. Dudson, Ahem, Cawston, Gerbes, Border, Jenks, Spelman, Young, Proctor be a com' mittee to canvass for subscriptions, and report results this day week." " That Mr Jenks be Secretary." " That Mr Thynne be Treasurer." "That Messrs Bradcock, T. P. ' Williams and F. Jenks be a sub committee to draw up a programme to be presented on Tuesday next." " That Mr Stansell be requested to obtain the use of the course from the Racing Club." ' The meeting then put their names do An on the subscription list and £8 was promised. The meeting with the usual vote to the chair, was adjourned to that day week.
