Manawatu Rowing Club.
The two first heats for the club's medals were rowed off on Thursday evening. In the first heat W. Stansell and C. Austin (4O3ecs) beat Potter and Cowles (2Osecs) by ten lengths. In the second heat McKee and Foster (3Osecs) beat Shadbplt and Nye (sch) by five lengths after a good race. The handicappers have evidently been holding the new members too cheaply. The 3rd beat was rowed off on Friday at 6 p.nil becween Irarie and McMillan (30secs) and Fairbank and Wearing (4Osecs.) i he former won by 8 lengths having steered a very good course. The race would have been more interesting if Fairbank had kept in smoother water. • , ,
Mr Ingram as usual made a very good starter, there being no hitch whatever. Among the new members we notice some very promising men who only want a little coaching -. to give a good account of themselves. Cook and Symons rowed a bye as Blake was not in town. The 2nd round of heats will be rowed off on Thursday next, Imrie and McMillan against Cook and Symons, and McKee and Foster against Stansell and Austin.
