Nowadays tbeMotr'polioy is always a prominent plant » the platform of every politician, yet is it a wise policy on the part of the consumers to place a tax on the articles whioh they do .not make but only consume ? Snppoße, for instance, the customs duty is 33 per cent, on imported goods, the wages of the laborei in all grades of employment in a country thus protected, should be 33 per cent, higher than in a freetrade country, to make things equal— -but, is it ever the case? True protection, like oharity, begins at home, and in these days when the air is laden with microbes, bacteria and other germs of disease, it behoves us all to be on onr guard against the common enemy ; old age kills. but; few, duease slays its thousands and. mil ions, and all beoanse mankind is so apathetuTand careless a*>o«t first signs of approaching sickness. _ Neuralgia is one of the most positive oigns of the approach of some physical affliction, and requires immediate attention, before it has progressed beyond human aid and fatal disease has got hold of some vital 'organ. S. C. Beilly. E<q., writes, under date Jone Ist, 1891, from Garner's Avenue, Marriokville, N.S, W. : " I can with con. fidenoe bear testimony to the wonderful curative powers of Clements Tonic For years I have been periodically attacked aud a great sufferer from neuralgia and general debility, and anyone who has ever been afflioted with such nervous misery can form an idea of what I have suffered. I had also obronio indigestion, general languid feelings and an utter dislike to exert myself. The neuralgia was so severe that J have paoed the hall all night and the agony was so excruoiating that I was almost out of my mind. I tried all so-called remedies, also galvanic treatment, which did no good. At last a friend recommended Clements Tonio, and I was bo miserable and disheartened that I pur* ohased a small bottle, and after the second dose felt great relief. I continued its use and am thankful to say that after twentyfour hours the pain had disappeared, and I «as free from tne nervous terror I con* tinted Clements Tonio and have taken four bottlei ; all my lanpour is gone, am I free from indigestion, 1 can do a day's vork with any man, and eat like a horse ; and have great pleasure in reonmmending Clements Tonio to any one suffering from nervous complaints.— Yours truly, S. O. Beilly." S=====Ss== _

The annual reports of other similar Associations show the satisfactory financial results which may be attained by such enterprises, aud induces the belief in the minds of the promoters that equally satisfactory results may be achieved in this part of the colony, and while offering a safe investment for capital, that the West Coast Farmers' Co-Operative Association may become, not only a sonrce of profit to its shareholders and constituents, but also a great and permanent benefit to the farmers, graziers, aud producers of tho West Coast generally.
