♦ . — SCALES & CO. 'a NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE EEPOET. London, 11th November, 1891. Butter— At the recommencement of the season for Colonial Dairy Produce we think it well to repeat some of the hints as to packing which we have already offered to our friends : Great care should be exercised to avoid any possible chance of the Butter being exposed to weather that might cause it to become melted or damaged by heat before shipment. This ' we apprehend is the chief difficulty the trade in New Zealand have to contend with, Ponds enamelled boxes containing about 561bs each are considered th& most suitable packages for finest quality Butter containing about 3 per cent of salt. - Kegs with galvanized iron hoops and containing 6Olbs to 7Olbs, beinf more suitable for Butter- of aathtfc, lower quality salted about 5 per cent. The most advantageous time of year for arrivals upon our market is during the Autumn and winter months, .say November, December and January when prices are highegyind quantities of European and ftnierican are naturally reduced. Up to this date no parcels of either Australian or New Zealand Butter have been offered, First arrivals are being eagerly looked for by buyers and some of the favourite marks are already sold to arrive. We have at present a very firm .market, all fine butter is selling readily at constantly increasing prices. We quote : — Danish 130s to 1365; French 120s to 180s ; American 86s to 108s. Cheese : — Market steady and fine qualities in better demand, we quote, Dutch, 50s to 565 ; American, 40s to 525. Hemp :— Not much business doing, demand slack at about late sales. Good Wellington, £20 to £21; Common to fair, £18 to £19 10s.
