MANAWATU RACING CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.
The first day's racing took place on Saturday. The morning threatened rain, but about 11 a.m. it cleared up. A. fair number were on the course, but not so many as are usually present, and the various estimates place those present between 700 and 1000. The jockey of She got a shaking when the mare went down, but the rider of Empress, who fell over her, was severely injured. The horse Ros also dislocated his shoulder and it is feared that he will have to be destroyed. Following are the results of the racing :— 'Trial Handicap, of 60 soys ; six furlongs.
