Notes and Events.
«, In the course of an interview which flic N.Z. Times reporter -had-: with Mr Whiteiiey King, he said:~An attempt is being made to .prohibit -New '.Zealanders contracting for work in Nev; South Wa'es, one of ihe^scv called Labour members having introduced a Bill in the Assembly with a clause to the effect that it shall be unlawful to prepay, assist, .or en» courage the importation of any alie» o" o'thev' person ..imdei* contract or agreement to perform labour or service of any kind "in New South Wales. That is restrictionist legislation with a vengeance. The particular Bill in question is directed solely at the Pastoralists' Union and the New Zealand shearers — the reference to ' aliens ' is mere, padding. However, I don't think the Bill will ever reach the Statute Book of New Pouth Wales, and if it did it will hardly prevent New Zealand shearers from visiting New South Wales for the shearing. As a specimen of • labour ' legislation, however, the Bill is instructive in several respects. .
