The Show.

— ; _^ We much regret to state that the fruit, flower and vegetable show was not anywhere so successful as we had hoped it would have been. The exhibits were remarkably fine, but the number of exhibitors were few. An excuse there is no doubt, for many not showing, the very dry weather having spoilt the specimens they were preserving to show, but still it was quite possible for a greater effort to have been made., The entries for the flowers were few. Mrs Ehodes had a very pretty hand bouquet, which carried off .the special prize, fehe also showed 12 roses, all true to name. The pansies exhibited by her were- grown from seed this year, and were handsome and of fair size. Mrs T. Wilson placed for exhibition only some larkspurs, everlasting flowers, kolardias, and cedinus. Mrs Neiwth sent a bunch of fine picotees and 1 , a handsome bouquet of Canterbury bells. Mr Coley had some very fine rosesj picotees, and other flowers, in vases, interspersed with his grand vegetable exhibits. The show of fruit was mor&> satisfactory, and the following were the prize takers : — 6 stalks rhubarb, 0. Honore 24 gooseberries, 0. Honore 12 red currants, D. Whibley . 24 gooseberries, 2nd prize, D, Whibley 25 cherries, E. Thynne 12 black currants, J. Coley Raspberries, Mrs Rhodes The other exhibitors of fruit were — C. Honore, rhubarb (giant), and red currants ; Mrs Wilson, rhubarb and gooseberries; Mr Thynne, gooseberries ; Mr Coley, gooseberries and raspberries. Mr Whibley exhibited a specimen branch of his red currants, which surprised all who examined it, for the thickness of the clusters of fruit, and the size of the < bunches and the size of tne fruit. The vegetables would be hard to beat anywhere, and C. Honore and James Coley were the largest exhibitors. Mr J. Coley received the award for the best collection, which he richly deserved for the trouble he had taken. "Visitors were surprised at the vegetables grown in the town. The following is the prize list : — 8 lettuces (cabbage), 0. Honore ! 3 cabbages, C. Honore ; .24 pods peas (stratagem)', (J. Honore .3 turnips (white stone), C. Honore 12 potatoes (kidneys), C. He also showed 12 round potatoes, which were very good. 1 1 vegetable marrow, h.c, Mrs McLean ; who also showed 25 beans. 2 cucumbers, E. S. Thynne. 3 cauliflowers, J. Coley 3 lettuce (Coss), J.
