The Garden.

» In sowing Turnips at this season of the year, a rich soil is essential,, forcing a quick, early growth, If theweather is favourable, the seeds will germinate quickly, but if the weather be dry, the precaution should be taken of soaking the drills over night. A Little guano sown with the seed in the drills is a great advantage, as it causes the seedlings to grow away quickly. Two more sowings of Peas may be made this month . These Peas should be grown in shallow trenches with rich deoayed manure put 'at the bottom, sufficient space being left in each trench to retain water, of which copious supplies are required in warm, dry weather ; and plenty of space between the rows afforded tbe tall growers. Hoe and mould up Jerusalem Artichokes. Globe Artichokes will be benefitted by mulching. Celery planting maybe commenced. Owing to the fineness of the'season both Gooseberries and Currants are making such growth that, if not pruned, they threaten to become unmanageable thickets. This should be looked to at once. It is also advisable to thin out and shorten back the side shoots, leaving the leading growths untouched. Young strawberry plants no matter how small will attempt to bear fruit, but this should not be allowed in any which are not sufficiently strong to sustain a crop without prejudice to further healthy progress.
