Death of Sir Frederick Whittaker.
On Friday afternoon Sir Frederick Whittaker was seized withafatal illness afc his office in Auckland. Mr Buddie and Mr Mason had occasion fco go to Sir Frederick's room aboufc 3 o'clock, when they found him sitting iv his chair unconscious. Dr Haines was called in, and ordered his immediate removal to hir home in Symonds'street, hut ,-. Sir Vrederick Whfcitaker died shortly affcej** he. reached his residence. The cPAise of his death was paralysis. r .-Ce had a severe shock of that kind in Ihme last, and has been in failing health since that time. The attack which caused his death was a sudden one, as* Sir Frederick appeared in excellon Aealth in the morning, and transaccc-This business as usual. Tho funeral took place on -unday. Before the procession left tlie house of the deceased gentleman a brief masonic service was held in the Free* ■( mason's Hall, Sir Fredk. having; occupied a distinguished position in ; that order. The funeral cortege was i one <*-f the largest seen in Auckland j - ior many years. Aboufc 150 Free* ! masons preceded the hearse. Sir j George Grey, the Hons Dr Pollen and AY. ."wansonand several members of the House of Representatives were present. The remains were j ■* interred in St. Stephen's Cemetery, j J'firnell. |
