The Marton Mercury is led to remark that probably Mr J*. G. Wilson the present Representative of the Palmerston Electoral District, is likely to try for the Rangitikei sent at the next general election. There seems to be nothing said, by our contemporary to make such an idea likely, as by the altered boundaries of the district makes Mr Wilson's return for the Otaki electorate almost a certainty. Mr Wilson, at the last election polled heavily in Carnarvon, Foxton and Otaki, and Palmerston was the only weak place. The new portions added to the electorate, in place of the Borough of Palmerston, are all in the country, and every settler will support an opponent of the present government. We have not heard from Mr Wilson, but we feel safe in saying that he would not abandon a contest for the new district, if . requested, after the splendid manner his supporters have for years upheld him.
