News has been received that a large force of Mongolian rebels is advancing on Pekin. Imperial troops have been despached to meet them. The attempt made in Texas to enforce a Bill against aliens owning land. failed through a technicality. Millions of acres owned in England were involved. Forty thousand cases of influenza have been recorded in Berlin during this month. The French Cabinet objects to release the Archbishop of Aix, who was recently fined 3000 francs for insulting M. Fallieres, the French Minister of Worship, by public donations, and has instituted proceedings against the Figaro for raising money for the purpose. The Russian peasants are thron ging to the railway stations with petitions to the Czar, for bread. The officials are alarmed at the peasants insisting that the responsibility of feeding them rests wjth the Czar, and a rising is feared. Turkey has ceded to France Cape Scheik, off Perim. This action is said to be an offset to the English occupation of Egypt. The Chinese rebels have captured Chaoyong and threaten Pekin. The China correspondent of the Standard telegraphs that the Chinese Government is powerless to resist the agitation against foreigners, and it is likely that an appeal will be made to the Great Powers for assistance. The French Government claim an indemnity for the massacre of subjects in Mongolia by the Chinese, and insists on special measures being taken to protect the priests and Christians in that country. The inaction of Russia has prevented the combined fleets mobilising in Chinese waters. At a conference of Irishmen in New York it was resolved not to send any more money to Europe until the schism in the Irish Party was healed.
