Greta Peaks Sheep Sale.
• On Friday, one of the most important sheep clearing sales in Canterbury was held at the Greta Peaks homestead, fifteen miles from Waikari railway station. Having been allowed time to look through the yards, Mr E. G. Stavely summoned the company to the business of the day. He said he had been honoured with, perhaps one oi the best sheep sales that might be witnessed within the confines of the colony. The number advertised was 17,400, but one or two lots had been withdrawn, and he had 13,000 head to offer for absolute sale without any reserve. These included some lines of grand crossbred and merino sheep, which had been carefully bred on the Grefca estate. The following are details : — IO6O four-tooth crossbred wethers, with a run out of 200, the line 16s 9tl ; 250 four- tooth maiden ewes, in wool, 16s 3d ; 785 six-too&h and full mouthed ewes, with 89 to 90 per cent of lambs by Leicester and merino rams, the line at 10s ; 283 halfbred fourtooth ewes and lambs, with 80 per cent of lambs, the . line at 203 ; 832 four and six-tooth crossbred ewes and 854 lambs, the line 16s ; 819 six and Smooth ewes, 16s ; 730 halfbred four-tooth ewes and lambs, the line 19s 3d ; 1400 threequarter-bred hoggets, the line 13s 8d ; 1460 fourtooth maiden merino ewes, with a run out of 200, the line 10s ; 2800 merino hogget ewes and wethers, the line 8s 3d ; 17 merino six-tooth rams, 8s ; 2520 halfbred hoggets, 11s 9d to 12s lid; 18 head of mixed cattle were sold at 57s 6d ; a sociable at £18 ; pair of horses £41, and set double harness at £6. — Press.
