Listeners Never Hear Arty Good of Themselves.

The Minister of Education and Justice who while travelling incognito along the East Coast, had, it is reported, a very unpleasant half hour at Waipiro. He was quite unknown in that neighbourhood, says the Gisborne Herald, in fact, he was taken to be a "social pest" in search of land. The conversation in the sitting room of the local hostelry wa3 about politics, and the present party in power, who it was unanimously affirmed "didn't care a button for the country as long as they got their own screws." The members of the Government came in for a lot of warm denunciation, and even the little Minister himself was mentioned in terms not complimentary by the country politicians. This sample of the opinion of the country must have been extremely galling to the Minister who proved so thin-skinned during the last session of Parliament, and how he managed to remain silent and not disclose his identity, our correspondent can in no way account.
