Seventh— The; deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £298,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976j the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth — The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. i Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year XSB9 was £4-26,494, being at -the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as nnder— . - It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,OOO^OOO in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over £4,000*000, yielding re~p. 'versidnary additions of over £5,000,000.
