Fire at Bredow Yanko & Co.'s Mill.

We very much regret to report that at nine o'clock this morning the whole of the hemp mill, known as Bredow Yanko & Co.'s, was destroyed by fire. The mill is situated on the Himatangi run, about four miles from Foxton. Just at " smoke oh " the fire, probably from sparks from the engine, was noticed outside ttye scutching shed. All hands were summoned by whistle, and every effort made to put out the fire, there being an ample supply of water, There, being a fresh north west wind blowing, it carried the sparks on the other building and the whole were destroyed within an hour. The scutching shed contained two tons of fibre ready for shipment, of which only four bales were saved. The engine is not thought to be hurt much, fnit all the belting and other machinery is destroyed. Mr Wilson, the owner, computes his loss at something near £150. He imagines Si the fire was caused by tow being put in the furnace to brighten the fire, a practice which he has frequently strongly objected to.
