Sandon Hack Racing Club.
A meeting of the above club was held at the Junction Hotel, Sancton, on Saturday evening, Mr Coyle in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, the annual report for 1891 was read as follows : — " Gentlemen, your committee have again to congratulate you on your financial success, and, notwithstanding Waverley holding a meeting the same day, your club had a most successful day's racing. Your committee started the year with £115 Is lOd to their credit, of which £100 was deposited with Messrs Stevens and Gorton at 5 per cent, Your * receipts for the year show an increase of £59 5s 5d on last year. Your nominations, acceptances, and entries are comparatively the same as last year, while the totaliaator receipts show an increase of £ 26 0s (3d, as also did your sale privileges, and members subscriptiSfs, by £82 10s lOd, but your expenses have been much greater this year than in the former years ; your stakes were also increased by £25 this year. A lease of the racecourse has been obtained f from Mr Prisk for seven years, for which Mr J. A. Bailey, Mr R, Perrett, Mr J. M. A 'Court, and Mr R. G. Edwards have become trustees and your committee has had a substantial grandstand erected, also a 6ft 6iu close board saddling paddock, and nine chains of protection ienoe 4 along the straight. Your raoeoourse has been ploughed and laid down with grass in the best possible manner." The report was adopted, and the balance-sheet, which was read by the treasurer, received. A vote of thanks was passed to the committee for the very complete report and balance-sheet presented. A hearty vote of thanks was also given to Mr J. Stevens, who officiated as judge at the last race meeting, in the absence of Colonel Gorton. It was resolved to hold a race meeting on the 17th of March next. The election of officers then took place. Mr J. G. Wilson, M.H.8., was elected president, Mr J. Bull, vice-president, and Messrs J. A. Bailey, D. Scott, C. W. McLean, W. Richmond, R. Hammond, G. Hirst and B. Perrett were appointed stewards. Messrs J. M. A'Court, J. Lumsden, T. Scott, L. Proctor, E. F. Blundell, J. Perrett, J. A. Bailey, W. J. Neill, W. Richardson, C. Capel, G. Hirst and R. Hammond were appointed a committee. Mr R. G. Edwards was re-appointed secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Stevens was elected judge, Mr T. King clerk of the scales, Mr L. Proctor clerk of the course, Mr Loyle time-keeper, and Mr J. E. Henry handicapper. On the motion of Mr Blundell, who pointed out that the success of the Club was largely due to the very efficient manner in which the duties of secretary and treasurer had been performed, a sum of ten guineas was voted to Mr Edwards as an acknowledgement of his services. After some discussion it was decided to allow the membership fee to remain as hitherto, viz., 10s 6d. The business of the geueral meeting then terminated, but the committee remained to draw up a programme for the next race day.— Advocate. f*K
