Genera! Boulanger.

The suicide of General Boulanger in Paris once more flashes his name prominently before the world. For a time, after his brief whirl on Parisian politics, he resided at Jersey with Madame Bonnemain, and the early death of that lady seems to have unhinged the poor gentleman's mind. The ridiculous side of a person's character lasts longest, and it will be hard to connect the deceased General with the important part he once played with the fortunes of a powerful nation. In justice to his memory we insert the opinion of the Review of Reviews which will help to cast a ray upon what otherwise might appear a very dark picture. The editor says, " Before he unhappily became tht prey of the intriguers who ruined him, General Boulanger had deserved well of his country. He had shed his blood in the cause of his country, he had risen to high command, and he became Minister of War. No amount of obloquy subsequently incurred can blind us to the fact that he was one of the best Ministers of War which the Republic has possessed. He was diligent, punctual, intelligent, and, above all, he was honestly solicitous for the welfare of the common soldier. He did more to improve the lot of the conscripts than all his predecessors, and that assuredly should be counted to him for righteousness. He honestly seems to have believed that France was about to instal him in supreme power.
