Fatal Accident.
An accident attended with fatal results, occurred on Suturday morning to a' resident of Pobjpgina, named Donald McKenzie. me was engaged in company with an employee named Arthur Day on his section, and while chopping down a tawa deceased did not notice that several supplejacks on top of the tree were entwined round a half rotten matai a few feet away. As the tawa fell the matai was drawn over also, but the latter becoming disconnected went back again, with the result that several pieces of wood from the top branches fell on top of deceased, who ran away from the tawa to get in a safe position, and these struck hint on the face and chest, injuring him

Mr Hart,^>ettle] residing at Ashurst, who -was also working at Pohangina, was only twenty chains away putting his horse into the buggy when the accident occurred. He rendered all the .assistance he was able to, but deceased passed quietly away. The late Mr McKenzie was widely known and esteemed throughout the Rangitikei district, where he had resided for years, and was about 3H years of age and unmarried. Ho lived for some time in the Kiwitea, but about 18 months ago took up land in the Pohangina. and was just beginning to reap the benefits of the large amount of labour expended by him in bringing his property into a pro per state of cultivation when the unfortunate accident occurred The deceased was known amongst his Iriends as " Maney" McKenzie, and his death will be mourned by a very large cirle of acquaintances. He was u son of Mr Thomas Urquhart &.c Kenzie, who resides in the Lower Bangitikei, and who is one of New Zealand's earliest settlers. The father who has been in failing health lately, will feel the loss of his son very much, to whom he was greatly attached. Mr Thomas McKenzie, <of Carnarvon, is also a brother of tie* tceased. Messrs McKenzie Bros, desire to Teturn their sincere thanks to Messrs Hart, bcholler, and Meads, all of whom rendered all the assistance in their power at the time of the accident. The remains of deceased were taken to Parawanui this morning for interment. -Standard.
