Kiwitea Road Board.

The following business transacted at the above Board's meeting on Saturday is of interest to some of our settlers : —

Petition received from settlei'3 on Kiinbolton road, Birmingham Block, asking that their thirds bo expended in metalling Kimbolton road. Egsolved, T hat . application be made for all thirds now due on Kiwitea Crossj roads to be spent in" forming a five foot bridle track from Kimbolton road as far as standing bush, balance to 1)3 spent in felling and clearing as far as money will allow. Resolved, That Engineer have Birmingham Cemetery logged up at cost not exceeding £10. Resolved, That application be made for all thirds accruing from sections owned by petitioners in Birmingham Block for metalling I Kimbolton road from cemetery northward, and that tenders be called, to close at next meeting, for same, provided money is in hand before calling tenders. The engineer estimated cost of Kimbolton road, constructed by day labour, at £2 15s 9d per chain. Letters were also received from : — E. Hunt, complaining that the Board's contractor in Foxton Block had been lighting fires, which had spread on to his land and his fallen bush was in danger of being fired. Prom J. Healey, complaining of state of road line in Foxton Small Farm Block in front of Mr Hughey's sections, caused by Mr Corpe's employees hauling logs down the track. Warden Homer moved, That steps be taken to raise a loan of £2200 for the purpose ot making Mcßeth's and Junction roads, Birmingham Block. The members were of opinion that as tha Apiri Ward had already had £5000 it would not M^ur to allow that ward to have andfterloan while other wards were starving for money, and on the motion of the Chairman the matter was held over till it was decided if road boards were to have the same borrowing powers as county councils. Extension of time for one month was allowed to G. Ellison for contract in Sandon Block ; also to Marsh and Connolly for work on Kimbolton road.
