Thirty Tons of Strawberries from One Station.

The crop of strawberries in Kent this year is a very remarkable one, the acreage and quantity gathered far exceeding anything ever known previously, while the quality is excellentMany tons per day are sent away by railway from the fruit centres, East Kent ; and the same thing is taking place from other parts of Kent. Some idea of the enormous production strawberry -growing has attained in Kent may be gained from the fact that on one day thirty tons of strawberries were despatched from Hand wich Station alone, the great bulk of the fruit being sent to London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester. Quite an army of workers are employed in the fields gathering the fruit, the only difficulty being to obtain sufficient labour owing to the great demand there is for the fruit and the markets which are now obtained at a great distance.
