The " Holy Coat Of Treves."
The Archibishop of Ireves and the Archibishop of Verseilles submitted the dispute, which was of long standing to arbitration, The Pope was umpire, and the question at issue was whether the seamless garment at Preors or the one at the Church at Argenteuil is the identical garment worn by the Saviour and described in the nineteenth chapter of St Johu. The ccat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. The Argenteuil relic is of camel's hair, is handwoven, and has faiut traces of purple. It was given by the Empress Irene to Charlemaigne in the year 800. As a Cablegram informed us, the Pope Las decided in favour of the relic at Treves, stating that the relic at Argentenil was a coat worn by the Saviour when a boy. The contro verse seems, however, likely to involve further issues, as the "Holy coat " without seams is claimed to be preserved at Moscow, St. Roch, Rome, Maggiore and Venice.
