HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p. in. CHAIRMAN' OF COMMITTEES. The Premier informed the Hon Mr Rolleston that he hoped to he able to appoint a Chairman of Committees soni^ <Uy this week. — The Hon Mr Rolleston spoke of the necessity for a. Chairman being appointed, and said he believed it was a violation of Parliamentary procedure, as he doubted whether .the Government had any legal power to keep the office vacant. The McLean Land Bill (No 2) was introduced by the Minister for Lands and read the first time. The Minister for Lands moved that the House disagrees with the amendments made in the Land Bill by the Legislative Council. The House then went into com. mittee on the Coal Mines Bill, My O' Conor being inS^^^ir, The Bill was pUJ^kough Committee with a few verbal arnend*^ ments, and then passed its final stages. The Minister for Lands moved that the amendments made in the * La,nd Bill by the Legislative Council be disagreed with. After a lengthy debate the Minister's motion wag agreed to, and managers were ap» pointed to draw up reasons for dis* agreeing with the amendments. The House rose at 1.30 a.m.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, The Hon the Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Native Land Court Acts Amendment Bill was introduced by^ the Native Minister and .cad the first time. The Premier moved that the House disagree with certain amendments in the Electoral Bill by the Legislative Council, and that managers be appointed to draw up reasons for such disagreement. The motion was agreed to on the voices. The reasons for dissenting to the amendments made in the land bill by the Legislative Council, submitted by the managers, were adopted. The House then went into Committee ot Supply for the consideration of the estimates. The House rose at 4 o'clock.
