The Garden.

The tiino has now arrived when the main crop of celery should be sown. Celery being in many gardens an important crop, a system of good culture should be adopted in its growth. Even at this early date it is as well to prepare the manure, which later on is to be placed in the trenches, as it requires to be well rotted. The seed should be sown very thinly on the surface of a mild hotbed and covered with fairly rich soil. Keep the seedlings near the

light, and take cave not to allow the soil to become at all dry. As soon as fairly started remove to a cooler place. Besides saving a deal of labour, pricking out into beds in a sheltered position has many advantages. The material must be placed on a hard and level surface to keep the roots nearer together, thus preventing the serious check caused by transplanting when the loots are large and ramMing. Capsicums and Chilis should be sown thinly in a five inch pot using light soil, then placed on the hot bed. When large they may be pricked out into boxes, or better still, into small pots, there to remain until the remotest danger of frcsfc is passed. Both these plants are pretty ornaments in the green-house. Tomato seed may be sown thinly in pots or boxes. The seed should be sown so thinly that when the young plants appear they are at least half an inch apart.
