DR. BARNARDO.

(TO THI IDITOII OF TIIK MAXAVATC ITCRAIjD.) Many earnest requests have come from my friends and correspondents throughout Now Zealand and the Australian "< 'olohics that I should myself visit Australasia to give thoso who have already subscribed to our work some account of our Homes, now sheltering Four Thousand Waif Children, and thereby to create and stimulate 'interosS in tlio great work ;i ■ of Rescue under my care. Finding it to be impossible this year to comply personally with this oft-repeated reijnesfc, my Trustees and Committee have, in union with myself, commissioned the Rev Walter J. Mayors, Deputation Secretary of these Institutions, to visit New Zealaud and the sister Colonies in my stead (accompanied by a party of Musical Little Boys, trained in the Institutions), for the purpose of interesting new friends in the work, and of pleading the cause of the Children of our streets. I have great pleasure, therefore, in announcing hereby that the Rev Walter J. Mayers and eight little boys sailed in the "Oruba", Orient Lino, on Friday, the 18th of .March, and that the party v.-ag expected (D.Y.) (o arrive in Adelfdda late in ' the mouth of • pril or very oarly in May. Mr Mayors will probably Ti'.-mh Now Zealand towards tho en-t of September or early in October, and arrangements will forthwith be made by him for holding meetings throughout the Colony, at which he will describe the work of these. Homes, wherein, as I have said, • 4,000 otherwise homeless and destitute boya aud girls, the largest family of O.phans in the whole v.'oi 1 d, arc boing now cared ibr, maintained, educated and twined. May I ask for my friend Mr Mayers very hearty and kindly welcome V'om all da-sso.7 in New Zealand: ? .fhose who can offer hini hospitality-, or who arc willing to entertain my j little boys, or who by moans of. tha lVoas or Pulpit arc willing to advocate ; nnd mako known the work, or who- . will lond\Piit>Uc Balls or Churches, >' free of charge, for Mr Mayers to preach and lecture in, will very materially contribute 'towards the. ' success of this Deputation, and all • such help will be gratefully ap- • predated. 'I enclose with this a General Letter of introduction and Com meridation, signed by, among others our President, the Marquis of Lome ; by oiu* chief Trustee, the Earl of Aberdeen ;' aud by a number of distinguished men representing every shade of political opinion and all sections of the one Church of Christ' throughout this Country.' • • I also enclose a copy of a few '• Testimonials which show as in a mirror the high opinion entertained of these Institutions by some of our most philanthropic arid 'best known public men. My little boys who accompany Mr ■Mayers have been ' very carefully trained to play hand-bells, the bagpipes, and one or two other musical instruments, and I now bespeak for then) and for Mr Mayers your benevolent and practical sympathy and co-operation. I know that when once you hear from Mr Mayers' own lips the wonderful story of the work which God has given me to do during tho past 25 years among homeless , and destitute children in East London, your hearts will feel stirred, as perhaps they have never been before, and you will be impelled to stretch put tho hand of brotherly compassion and of loving help to my largo family of Orphan Waifs and Strays. • I am, Ac, Tiios. T. IBarnarco.
