Racing Notes.

" Spectator " in the Pi ess thus refers to various local matters. In the first note he touched upon a question that was urged at the Racing Club's dinner, and, as it will 'be noticed, endorses the. remarks niadc. He writes : — A great deal of the future success of the Manawatu Ptacing Club, from a local point of view, depends on the encouragement given to resident owners and trainers, and I would strongly urge on the members of tho Club the importance of treating trainers and owners, be they local or visiting ones, well, and the first consideration is to give them decent ground to work on. As the Palmerston course becomes very • dry and hard in the summer many horses have " cracked up " or gono lame when raced there, and I would advise tho Club to adopt tho the, practice of the Auckland Racing Club and give the track a light topdressing and harrowing before their Summer Meeting. By this moans the "jar" would be taken off theground, and fewer iustances of breaking down or lameness would have to be recorded. It is unfortunate that tho Metropolitan Club should have passed tho Mauawa'u. and Feildiug Clubs' programmes for the same day without firct having made an. effort to clear the way, so as to prevent clashing. Rivalry such as is now exhibited between the Feilding and Manawatu Club 3, is not for the general good of either. The same writer does not approve of this "jumping" of other Club's dates, and he issues a warning which it will behove the Manawatu Club to consider, as he states : — On the first day £380 will be given in stakes, and on the second day £3QJ How the Club intend to manage over their March Sleeting, which is to be a hack one, I have not heard, but the Metropolitan rulo on the subject provides that each club holding three - days racing in the year must give £-100. per diem in stages. -Probably there will be. a, Hack Meeting at which no tptalisator will be used, but this is a matter which of course will rest with the Metropolitan Club, which after all lias only to see ihac tho Rulss ox Racing 'are complied with.
