Foxton Licensing Committee.
The above Committee held their quarterly meeting at the Courthouse to-day at noon. Present — Messrs Is. Austin (chairman), F. Jenks, W. Little, J. Ahem, and S. Startup.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Constable Gillespie reported that the stables at the Manawatu hotel had been put up, but not in a first class manner. In the absence of a written report he would state that — In regard to Mr Stansell's hotel it had been well conducted during the past quarter. There had been no drunkeness and no Sunday trading.
Mr Border had been fined £6 and costs, otherwise he had no complaint to make.
With regard to Mr Cawston's the house had been conducted very loosely. The' other night two boys had been turned Out helplessly drunk. He had frequently cautioned him but it appeared of no use. Last night he had been round and found the bar open at 12 o'clock. Mr McCarthy attended to show the Committee the plans of the new house he proposed erecting in the place of the Foxton Faniily Hotel. He stated that he had given instructions to the architect to prepare a plan similar to Walkeley's hotel at Longburn. The house would contain 25 rooms. The rooms balow would be 18ft high and upstairs 1 lft. The frontage would be 54ffc Avith a depth of 84ft.
He proposed to invite tenders for the work within a week or two.
The Chairman trusted that it would be necessary to have it completed. ' Mr McCarthy assured the committee that he had no desire to shirk anything that he had undertaken to doi
