Seventh— The deaths among lives assured were (540 under *73S policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabiliiies would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976,.the. mortality experience being thus extremely, favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims hy £138,952. NtKTn— The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth— The cash surplus divided for the year 18S9 was £426,494, being at <he rate of 41.5 percent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may he summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. j Tt hns divided among the members I tash bonuses aggregating over I £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
