M anu kau.

(from our own correspondent.) A most successful concert was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday last by the pupils of Mr Platts assisted by a few friends. The room j» was very full and those present en- , joyed a pleasant evening. The fol- * lowing took part in the entertainment: — Mrs Bethune, Misses MoCulloch, Hurley (2), Knocks (2). Tilly, Hasps Little and Platts, After tlJßncert a very enjoyable dance vJPneld, till twelve o'clock, when air went home, well pleased "vflfch the evenings entertainment. The need of a hall of some sort to hold meetings and concerts in is greatly felt, and I hear that some enterprising individual is contomplat* ing erecting one. I only hope it *lnay prove to be true for it would be a great boon. Two horses were killed near the station on the same night as the un- " fortunate McCarthy cnme to his sad end, probably the same train was rpsponsible for both. Surely this should awaken the Company to the necessity of putting in cattle stops at their crossing; They will probably do it when a train is thrown off the line by one of these frequent collisions, and somebody killed, on the principle of locking the stable door, etc. Qur township is looking quite neat since tho streets are being formed. It certainly is a great improvement, and comfort to the settlers. ;_^
