By reference to our cablegrams it will be noticed that it has occurred as we foreshadowed in our leader on Turkey, that Russia has proposed that some territory should be ceded to her in liquidation of the arrears of the war indemnity. It has been arranged to give a concert at the Public Hall next Friday, to raise some funds for the Foxton School Committee. Mr W. Little has been good enough to interest himself in this matter and has secured very valuable assistance. We hope that all those interested in the school will make a point to attend. A prophecy. The. Palmerston Standard states that " ninety-two per cent of passes is the record for the Foxton School examination." So may it be, when the school is examined, which will be in a few weeks time. We understand that the company is to be managed entirely by the shareholder under a competent manager. A meeting of the shareholders has been called for the earliest possible date, the 10th September, at Wellington, to elect directors and officers. The scheme for the federation of local preachers of various Methodist bodies has been fully approved, and Mr W. T. D. Wilson eleoted President. The Cossack officer who practically rode straight across Asia and Europe — nearly from the shore of the Pacific Ocean to that of the Baltic — over 5000 miles, is a teetotaler and a non-smoker. The "World hears from Liverpool that Bishop Byle is expected to resign his see very shortly, in consequence of the precarious state of his health.
