The Hawaiian Islands.
The rumour that the inhabitants of these islands are in favour of annexation to the United States has to be received with caution. We believe that many attempts have been made by .the Americans to get a footing on this interesting chain of islands, as they lay in the direct trade route to these colonies. How* ever, as the Hawaiians have the management of their own affairs now, are very intelligent and prosperous, we should consider that they would be better off as they are, than to have the advantages of the Yankee carpet - bagger politician. They possess a commercial marine of 68 vessels, and have 58 miles of railway. The public revenue is L 572.501. The total value of imports is L 1,087,578, 087,578 and exports £2,807,789. Their chief town, Honolulu, is lighted by electricity.
