THE MAIL COACH.

(to thb editor op thb manawatu hebald.) Si*,— l see by a letter in your paper, Mr H. Bradcock was made to pay a fine of six pounds and fourteen shillings costs for running a coach ove> thp Horowhenua County Council's so called roads. '.';' Since then they have bled me to ' the extent bf two pounds five shillings for the same reason. Surely the members of the H. C. C. must have a set on the Foxton public- and are making us suffer for it. My motto is good for good and evil for evil, and in consequence I have instructed my driver to charge members of the H. C. C. one shilling extra for fares between Foxton and Kereru until the fine fee or license is made up. I maintain it is a very unfair proceeding on their part, and do not know of an, instance where a Mail Coach is fined for running over or through a Counties road. The Foxton people consider it a great benefit and actually offered to subscribe the amount the Government paid for the first year's running of the Mail Coach, and in the face of that it seems some of the members of the H.C.C. must have a down on Foxton. Since they fined me I see the ft.&.C. are going to try and charge the Foxton Borough Council £l 6 per annum for the use of the hut the Wirokino ferryman uses. Apolo* gising for troubling you. — lam, &c, J. R. Stansell, Proprietor Whyte's Hotel and Coaches to Kereru. ■MI"-~~M-«M-W-~«i-~~ ll ~"~"~»~l
