SixTH—The Aocmnulated Fund was in. creased during the year by the sum of £742)311 equal to 71 per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh — The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 73S policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299)602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been .1143, f° r an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. • fM> ■ ■"• ■ Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9.0 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth:— The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.S per cent, on the j premiums received. The operations of the Society daring the 41 years of its existence may be summar ißed as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. It has divided among the members < ash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over £8,000,000.
