Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 1891. Another Shuffle.
Ouk readers will have nofcloed that qustion after question has been put to the Government as to whom they purpose to make Agent-General after Sir Dillon Bell's term is up. The Ministers have evaded giving a direct answer, in fact they have endeavoured to lead the House to suppose such a little matter as this had in ho way agitated them ! Matters have sines assumed a different complexion. ' itr Ballance's taxation proposals are .being objected to by his own party, and Sir Robert Stout, who is credited, with being the guide, philosopher, and and friend, of the great .liberal 'party, is strangely against the Premier^ fads. This, therefore* will occasion anotner shuffle amongst the. court cards of the ministerial paok; and a very well founded rumour states that the Premier will retire from the worry of leadership, and seek oonsolation in the pleasant office of Agent-General for the Colony in London 1 The aggressive Minister? the Hon. Dick Seddon is to become Premier I And Mr Ward to hold his offices' with a salary. This will make things very, pleasant all round, and there will be. a vacant minjsteral position to dangle- before the members of the party, which if not too soon filled, should be effective in keeping some half dozen members quiet. Rumour further asserts that Sir George Grey will approve of this shuffle, if, and that is important, a friend of his is provided for- This points to the voluble Bees as the future new minister. Probably all this will be first scouted by the Government papers, but they had better not write too strong, as nothing is so likely to ocour as what we have suggested.: ■ .. .
