lease of the reserve. The Mayor said he had inspected the reserve and he thought the Cr had to be thanked for doing so, as there must have been 100 trees injured lately. Itwas proposed by the Mayor and Nj^nied by Cr Williams, That fl^ETstin's surrender of the lease of £ormigh reserve be accepted. — Carried. A circular from the AuditorGeneral re audit of accounts was read. A letter from the Horowhenua County Council asking that the charge of £10 for clerical work be struck out of tho Wirikino ferry account was read. Or Williams proposed and Cr McMillan seconded, that this Council considers that the £10 charged for clerical work a fair charge against the Wirikino ferry. It was resolved that All Saints Vestry be allowed to make a carriage crossing into the Church grounds. Mr T. Wilson the Manager of the Moutoa Estate applied for leave to make a culvert across No. 8 line. It was resolved that permission be granted to the Manager of the Mofcoa Estate to put a culvert across No 6 line. The Clerk read the specifications of the duties of the Custodian of the Library. . The Councillors approved. Proposed by Cr Nye seconded, by Cr Austin, That owing to 95 per cent of trees .planted by R. Gray last season having failed, a fresh agreement be made with R. Gray to plant those that he had to make good on that portion of the reserve already fenced in for the purpose of tree planting, and that the Inspector of works be instructed to make the best terms with R. Gray to carry out the above. —Carried. Proposed by Cr Nye seconded by Cr Austin, That an agreement be made with Messrs Robinson granting to the Foxton Borough Council the sole right to take gravel and sand from their land at the following prices : — Clean gravel, 6d per yard, gravel and soil 4d, a yard, sand Sd, a yard. The boundaries to be defined by the owners and the Councillor's Inspector. CrNye showed that the supply of gravel was limited and that even with great economy tjie gravel would not lasfeover three years. In a few years gravel would cost 8s to 10s. a yard. : The resolution was put and carried. Cr Nye presented the following petition :-- To the Mayor and Councillors of the Foxton Borough 15i££the undersigned ratepayers anti#Ef operfy' owners on Johnston: and Russell streets and Norbiton • road would petition your council to gravel Johnston and Russell streets. This we consider is a much needed work seeing that all stock traffic is done on these streets also a consider* ftble quantity of ordinary traffic and ( the oonsequence is when the west wind blows during dry weather, the properties on the eastern side are continually: being smothered with dnsi (Signed)— C. Honore, R. Walcten.W. Ingram, W. Bramley, A. Honore, H. Webb, M. Walker, W, AUdorf, G. Coley, J. R. Russell, H. Stephens, W. P. Palmer, W. H. Sawyers. The Clerk stated that this work had been considered in the estimates. It was resolved that a speoial meeting be held next Monday to consider, iHe receipts and expenditure of the coming year. It was ' proposed by Cr Startup seconded by Gr Nye, That a Library Committee consisting of Crs McMillan Williams, Austin and the mover be appointed to select books.— Carried. Proposed bythe Mayor seconded by Cr Startup, That the attention afthe owner of the fence on the footpath in feont of section 114 be called to the dangerous state of fence. — Carried.
