The Temuka Mystery.

On the sth April, 1889,, Mr John Hayhurst, after a few days illness, died at his house on the Main road at Teinuka. He had only one son living at the time of his death, •: and who was then 28 years of age. This Bon, who' had married a [few years previously, entered in of time into the possession of his! ifather's property, the Greenhayes Estate, under a will signed some years before. The property is stated to be a very valuable one; , Last year the new owner was. unpleasantly surprised by the arrival from England of a lady who claimed to be the legal wife of the late Mr Hayhurst, and asserted that he was the father of two young childven, some eight or nine years old , who, ' slie said, had been born after the marriage. She claimed the property of the deceased and made certain representations, which led ultimately to' the. issue of an order by the Colonial Secretary for the exhumation of the body. Mr Beetham, R.M. at Temuka, opened the inquiry, on Tuesday,,, but it was merely formal, as an adjournment had to be made for the results of the analysis , of the, stomaoh and other parts -pf ihe body,\ ; Di?
