+ .-,• In ; the Premier's reply there is provided one little loophole for escape, as he is reported to have said that " With., regard to the revenue, they were convinced they would get the money they, estimated, but they had one important reservation — before they were called upon to impose the tax they would,., have , the date ascertained by the Triennial Property Assessment, and would know to a penny how much the rate would produce." < f The N. Z. Times thus reports the manner of the adjournment of the Premier's reply. He had risen at 4.30 in a thin House, his rising is unexpected. " Even his own side-is taken by surprise. The Premier goes on bravely, riot heeding the depressing circumstances. There is hardly a soul in the naileries, and the House itself shows no signs of getting fuller. • The spectacle is . too much for Captain Russell s sense of the fitness ot things. He gets up as if to a point of order. The Premier .seeing him rise gives way in the ' customary manner. The Captain courteously suggests to the Speaker; that, an adjournment till half past. 1 ? would meet the case. If the Premier is Agreeable the Opposition, he intimates, will adjourn. - i =;< -■ Of course the Pren^er is agreeable. He thanks Captain Russell for his thoughtful courtesy, he asks the House if it is agreeable" too, the House looks pleased, and Mr Speaker thereuponadjourns.it in the usual manner. ,
