The alarmed fanner, acting on „ si.dden impulse, sprang into the water after h'.s animals, and was soon clinging to tlv tail of the foal. As luck would have it, the mare headed for the bank-, while the fo •«, made direct down the river. " Let go th, cilt and haud on by the mate," _hout*d those on board the Ijoat, alarmed lor the safety of the man. " Ay. ay," cried the fanner, sputtering Lhew;il.rii-_m his mouth ; " is a' very weel o' you lo tell me to let go the colt, but when a man cansia swoom It's ';. a tiaie for swappin' horses."
