Fixth— -The Accumulated Fund was in* creased during the year by the sum o' £742,311 equal to 71 per cent of the gro is premiums received. Seventh— The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, heing at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on ths | premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summarised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has divided among the members ' • ash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding revwionary additions of over £8,000,000.
