■ The Secretary of State for India has sanctioned the pension of £800 a year to Mrs Quinton, widow of the Commissioner of Assam, who was killed at Munipur. Archbishop Walsh, in the course of an article in the National Press, says he considers it is hopeless to expect Home Rule in the present century. Several of the London newspapers are " booming" New Zealand, probably in view of the loan conversion scheme which Mr William Lidderdale, Governor of the Bank of Eng- ! land favours. The general opinion in City financial circles is that the cloud which has been hanging over colonial credit for some time past, is lifting.
