F ixth — The Accumulated Fund was in" creased during the year by the sum. of £742,311 equal to 71 per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh— The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thnst extremely favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount excr-eding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9*5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summar ised as under— It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. . It has divided among the members i ash bonuses aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reversionary ' additions of over £8,000,000.
