Seventh — The deaths among lives assured were G49 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £298,602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 114J3, for an amount of £4>3&,---070, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest, and rents were £516)332, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £133,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 0.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be suinniar ised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £^9,<5:!7,717. It has paid to tho representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims.
