Sixth— The Accumulated Fund was in" cieased during the year by the sum of i £742,311 equal to 71 per cent of the gross premiums received. Seventh — The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting to £299)602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143, for an amount of £438,---976, the mortality experience being thus extremely-favourable. Eighth— The receipts from interest and rents were £816,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by £138,952. Ninth— The expenses of Management were only 9*5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tknth— The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 years of its existence may be summar 1 ised as under — It has issued 141,907 policies, assuring £49,417,717. It has p&id to the representatives of deceased members over £4,---000,000 in satisfaction of death anp matured claims. ; It has divided among the members i ash bonuses aggregating over £4 ?
